Leeds United were humbled 5-0 by Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s team unravelled at the Emirates on 23 August, with no player really standing out for the Whites in their crushing defeat in N7.

The game had several talking points as the fifth goal came after Anton Stach fouled Max Dowman in the 95th minute, and Viktor Gyokeres slotted the penalty home for his brace.

There was another incident where fans may have felt the West Yorkshire outfit were hard done by in the build-up to one of the other goals.

William Saliba handball inconsequential as Jurrien Timber scored fourth Arsenal goal vs Leeds United

After a goalmouth scramble in the 56th minute, Jurrien Timber managed to find the back of the net from another set-piece for Arsenal.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

Dermot Gallagher doesn’t feel the ball hit William Saliba’s hand before the Gunners scored their fourth, and even if it did, it wasn’t intentional.

The retired referee feels the goal could have only been disallowed had it hit the French centre-back’s arm, and he scores instead of Timber.

Speaking on Sky Sports News Ref Watch on 25 August, Gallagher said: “I’m not convinced it hits [Saliba’s] hand, but if it does, it’s accidental. Because he’s not the scorer, it can’t be penalised. If it does strike his arm or his hand, and he scores, it’s disallowed.”

Daniel Farke gets Premier League reality check

Alan Shearer feels Leeds’ home form will be key in the Premier League as they look to avoid immediate relegation to the Championship.

The Whites had an impressive start to the campaign after beating Everton at Elland Road in the opening fixture after a two-year absence from the English top flight.

It looks like Daniel Farke will need to make LS11 a fortress for the West Yorkshire outfit if he hopes to survive the drop.

Arsenal were just too good for Leeds on the day, and while Mikel Arteta admires the German manager’s philosophy, he needs to be more realistic.

The Whites looked all over the place against a well-drilled Gunners and should be more pragmatic when taking on the top teams in the Premier League.

Newcastle United are up next in the English top flight for the West Yorkshire outfit at Elland Road on 30 August before the international break, and Farke will do well to take away a point from Eddie Howe’s team.
