Gary Neville wants Manchester United to make two more signings before the summer transfer deadline after highlighting a problem area within Ruben Amorim's squad

Manchester United still need to sign a central midfielder almost ten months after appointing Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils shortcomings in that department were clear again after the 1-1 draw away to Fulham last weekend.
They have signed three forwards - Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha - this summer, four if you include Enzo Kana-Biyik. Diego Leon is also the second left wing-back brought in after already adding Patrick Dorgu during the winter transfer window, alongside Ayden Heaven, an additional central defender.
However, the middle of the pitch remains unimproved in comparison to when Amorim arrived. United are actually weaker there than they were last season after Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer departed, the latter on loan.
Gary Neville has now urged them to make a move in that area. "In central midfield, they have to do a piece of business now," he said during Sunday's The Gary Neville podcast episode.

Neville explained: "They are going to have to get something sorted because it is going to be a problem. The two in there really do get exposed when the front three are a little bit higher, and the back five sometimes get pushed back a bit; those acres of space seem to open up a bit.
"I think Bruno Fernandes is part of that in there, and he is going to have to sort it out. I think Man United will have to get a goalkeeper and look at getting a central midfield player."
The club selling Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, who are frontrunners to sign the wantaway winger, would seemingly be the most straightforward way of raising the funds for another signing. Securing the exits of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia would no doubt help.
However, prioritising getting a fee from the Blues in time for United to reinvest that into the squad should be their approach, with barely a week left for them to do business.
