Newcastle hope that Liverpool target Alexander Isak could return to training this week amid his ongoing transfer saga, GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The St James’ Park side are aiming to keep the Sweden international ahead of the transfer deadline next Monday and remain hopeful Isak will re-join his teammates in training over the coming days.
Isak is still determined to leave Newcastle for Liverpool this summer and has missed both of the Magpies’ opening two Premier League matches as well as pre-season.
Liverpool have yet to return with an improved offer for Isak after seeing their £110m bid rejected earlier this month.
That prompted the 25-year-old to release a statement last week claiming Newcastle had broken promises made to him, as he believed he would be allowed to leave if a major club came in this summer.
Newcastle Want Isak Back in Training

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, said Newcastle’s technical staff remain hopeful that Isak will return to training this week following their home clash with Liverpool on Monday:
“This story, I have told you since July, completely depends on Newcastle.
“Isak wants to go to Liverpool. Isak wants to play for Liverpool. Liverpool want to go for Isak. Liverpool are prepared to pay, but Newcastle are the ones who decide, and Newcastle will try their best to keep their players.
“So let's see what's going to happen there. Let's see what kind of week it will be after the game on Monday, but, internally, the technical staff of Newcastle hope that Alexander Isak can be back in training already in this upcoming week, ahead of the end of the transfer window.”
Newcastle are believed to value Isak at around £150m – a figure which, if met, would make him the most expensive signing in Premier League history, surpassing Liverpool’s £116m capture of Florian Wirtz.
The Magpies have been reluctant to lower their demands and would likely need to sign a replacement before sanctioning his exit, with talks stalling for long-term target Yoane Wissa.
Isak enjoyed a career-best campaign with Newcastle in 2024/25, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in 34 Premier League appearances.
The 25-year-old, who joined from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, is under contract until June 2028.
