Grading Cleveland Browns Young Players vs Los Angeles Rams

Luke Wypler, C

The third-year center from Ohio State, Luke Wypler, continues to be impressive whenever he is called upon. He's a smart player who understands what a defense is trying to do to confuse him and reacts quickly. His footwork and technique are clean and on point. If Ethan Pocic misses any time from his knee injury, the Browns will be fine with Wypler standing in. It seems very likely that when Pocic's contract is up at the end of the year, Wypler will step in as the new starter next season.

Grade: A

Chris Edmonds, S

UDFA safety Chris Edmonds has been locked in a battle with Donovan McMillon for one of the final spots on this roster, and he didn't have a good day. Edmonds brings positional versatility that is intriguing, but he has struggled in run defense and been very inconsistent in coverage. If I had to guess, he would be on the outside looking in when the cuts are made to get the roster down to 53.

Grade: D

Shedeur Sanders, QB

Simply put, it was a terrible day for Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who looked uncomfortable and indecisive as he struggled to move the ball. His offensive line didn't help him a ton, but he took some terrible sacks running backwards and holding onto the ball way too long, including a 23-yard sack. This was one of his biggest issues coming out of Colorado; he has to learn to throw the ball away and not drift in the pocket and run around thinking he's more athletic than he is. This one game doesn't define his career, but it is clear he needs more time before he starts an NFL regular-season game.

Grade: D+

Dillon Gabriel, QB

Dillon Gabriel had a great day and showed exactly why Kevin Stefanski and the Browns drafted him as high as they did. He was quick and decisive, and got the ball out on time and in rhythm, letting his playmakers make plays. I've said all along he is a point guard that isn't an elevator but will run the offense efficiently and make the right reads. His two-minute drive before half was awesome; he knew in that situation he had to throw the ball quickly and could not take a sack. Gabriel might not have the highest ceiling, but he can run this offense scheme, and I think he showed you can count on him to be the backup to Joe Flacco.
