The Man Utd youngster has improved after a testing first few months at his new club.

It is only natural that most of the focus is on Manchester United’s new summer signings. Ruben Amorim has been backed with just over £200 million this window to sign four new players and it could soon become five amid United's pursuit of Royal Antwerp ace Senne Lammens.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have both started brightly, while Benjamin Sesko has shown signs of why he is the new man to lead the forward line. Diego Leon showed his exciting potential in pre-season but just as impressive have been the performance of wing-back Patrick Dorgu.

The 20-year-old arrived during the winter window earlier in the year and endured a mixed start to life at his new club as they fell to their worst finish of the Premier League era. It was hardly a healthy environment for a new arrival to adapt, particularly one so young who was adapting to new country while playing for its biggest club.

Dorgu was in clear need of a pre-season schedule and time to train under Amorim, something he finally got during the summer. The Denmark international impressed during the friendly fixtures and has carried his form into the new campaign with a couple of lively appearances on the left wing. It is easy to see why he is being described like a new signing.

"Yeah, it’s been a lot better," he told reporters of his start to the new season. "Obviously the time off was nice for everyone to really relax and get ready for the new season, then the pre-season helped me get more into the team and with the players get a good connection and stuff. So it’s helped me a lot."

United described Dorgu as a player with 'world-class' potential when he joined from Lecce earlier in the year, but it is only that: potential. To fulfil such lofty expectations he needs to stay fit, play regularly and have the trust of his head coach. At the moment, that is all in his favour, with Amorim eager to push the youngster to get even better.

Asked what Amorim wants to see from him this season, he added: "I think just a lot of runs like being more attacking - like last season we I could have been more attacking and I feel like in preseason I've improved that a little bit and yeah it's just to attack more, get into the box, help the team create more chances.

"I like both, I like to tackle, I like to attack, I like to score goals, gain assists, so I think just to play wing back you need to be all around, you need to be good at tackling, you need to be good at defensive work as well. We need to be able to do both. We need to have the defence, we need to have the attackers, we sort of have the wide players, so we need to get up and down."
