Patriots 2024 Draft Class Shaping Up as One of Worst in Franchise History

The New England Patriots' 2024 draft class is shaping up to be one of the worst in the history of the storied franchise.

New England's fourth-round pick from last season, Layden Robinson, was waived on Sunday and he is the latest member of the class to no longer be with the team.

Last year's draft did see the Patriots draft quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick. Maye is the only member, though, that is expected to have any sort of serious impact this season.

New England took wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk in the second round and after just 12 catches as a rookie, Polk is out for this entire season with an injury. In the third round, the Patriots selected offensive lineman Caedan Wallace. Wallace is currently listed as a backup on the depth chart.

New England had two fourth-round picks, with Robinson being one of the two. The second was wide receiver Javon Baker, who was in serious jeopardy of being a roster cut prior to Tuesday.

Two more picks were used in the sixth round on cornerback Marcellas Dial and quarterback Joe Milton. Dial is out for the season and Milton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason. Tight end Jaheim Bell was the final selection for the Patriots, and he was waived after Thursday's preseason finale.

Maye is the only player from last season's class that has shown any sort of potential. It is looking like last year's head coach Jarrod Mayo may have played a part in one of the franchise's worst draft classes.

The lack of production from last year's draft class makes it easy to understand why New England finished in last in the AFC East. An excellent offseason that included this year's draft class is a big part of why the Patriots are primed for a surprise run to the playoffs.
