Liverpool "attack" for Isak imminent with Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan at St. James Park

Liverpool are preparing a fresh bid for Alexander Isak but before the final fight for the Swede, they will battle Newcastle United in the Premier League tonight at St. James’ Park.

There is no doubt that Newcastle vs Liverpool will go down as an historic fixture – not for its relevance in the grand scheme of the season – but as a pivotal event in the Alexander Isak transfer saga.

The Swede has been on strike this summer in defiance of Newcastle’s wishes in response to alleged broken promises which they have dispute but Liverpool are now poised to return with a second bid after seeing an opening £110m bid in late July.

Any suggestion that Liverpool disrespected Newcastle with their opening bid is baseless but also irrelevant with the Reds reportedly preparing to return with a bid that will seriously test the Magpies’ resolve.

With the transfer saga finely poised, Newcastle chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan will be in attendance at St. James Park – he last attended a Newcastle game in February.

Liverpool to imminently submit bid for Alexander Isak as St. James Park boils ahead of 8pm kickoff

At 8pm, Liverpool will step into the cauldron that will be St. James Park.

Newcastle supporters are understandbly incensed at the thought of losing a player that was so crucial in winning the club its first major trophy in 56 years.

This fixture would ordinarily be nothing more than a very good test of the two clubs’ level of preparation for the new season but no more.

Now, it could be Newcastle’s chance to claim their pound of flesh with it still very likely Liverpool sign Isak.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are set to “attack” for Isak and it stands to reason they will wait until the dust has settled on this evening’s powder keg of a Premier League clash.

On his YouTube channel, the journalist says: “The [match] between Newcastle and Liverpool is coming.

“Obviously it’s going to be an important moment because it’s going to close this story between Newcastle and Liverpool and then from Tuesday we will understand more on the Isak story – whether he’s going to Liverpool or whether Newcastle are going to keep the player.

“Newcastle, internally, hope that this week after the game Isak can return to training. Newcastle really hope that.

“Internally they have this feeling that they want to convince Isak to be back in training after the game on Monday.

“Liverpool remain in their position – they want Isak, they will attack for Isak, but it will depend on Newcastle.

“This story completely depends on Newcastle. Isak wants Liverpool and Liverpool are prepared to pay, but Newcastle are the ones who decide and Newcastle will try their best to keep the player.”

Isak has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and remains focused on joining the Premier League champions this season.
