Saturday was a day to remember for Keith Andrews and his Brentford squad as they won their first Premier League game of the season, beating Aston Villa 1-0.
Andrews’ side took the lead thanks to a goal from new signing Dango Outtara in the 12th minute, and held on until the final whistle, thanks to a resolute defensive performance, spearheaded by captain Nathan Collins and fellow Irishman, goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
Keith Andrews was desperate to get a result against Villa after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest one week prior. Martin O’Neill commented after the game how Andrews will be delighted to get three points on the board.
Casual followers of Brentford supporter would have been surprised to see German supermodel Claudia Schiffer celebrating with the Bees after the game. But her reason for her attendance on Saturday actually isn't much of surprise.
Claudia Schiffer Makes Debut Premier League Appearance At Brentford Home Opener
In mid-July, German supermodel Claudia Schiffer announced that she had taken a minority shareholding in Brentford, alongside her husband, Matthew Vaughn, a movie director known best for films such as Kingsman, Kick-Ass and Rocketman.
Taking to social media, Schiffer announced her stake with a photo of her in a Brentford jersey, with the caption:
“I was lucky enough to bring out the World Cup with Pelé and he told me football is a beautiful game. I’m very excited that I’m now officially involved in a football club and look forward to experiencing its beauty”
She is referring to handing the World Cup trophy to Pele as part of the 2006 World Cup opening ceremony.
