Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a huge doubt for upcoming Leeds United game – Daniel Farke

Coming off the back of a huge defeat at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates, Leeds United have the chance to bounce back midweek. The Whites face Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

The game gives Daniel Farke the opportunity to give his team more time to gel, as they prepare to face Newcastle United over the weekend. It will also be a chance for some player to get their first taste of action in competitive games.

One player who could be a doubt for the game is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he has been left out of the last two matchday squads as he ramps up fitness. Daniel Farke said the striker is not ready yet, but has a chance of making Tuesday’s game.

“Dominic is progressing well day to day, he is growing, you can see this in training.

“Obviously there was a long summer break and then he has missed five-and-a-half weeks of pre-season. We are doing at the moment a little mini pre-season with him.

“It means he is joining us in team training and he is growing from day to day but he also has to do additional load, he does more than the normal team in order to build his fitness for the long Premier League season.

Farke then added that Calvert-Lewin could have made the squad this weekend, and that a late decision will be made on if he plays on Tuesday.

“For that, I was a bit tempted on Saturday to let him travel with us but we decided and also together that he needs a few more days on the training pitch.

“But there is a chance right now, more or less from day to day to see him for the first time in the travelling squad for a competitive game.

“It’s edging closer and closer and also we will take a late decision for this game.”

Sheffield Wednesday game is a welcomed breather

Leeds definitely needed this game before they face Newcastle over the weekend. It is a big chance for the club and Daniel Farke to get some confidence back into the team after Saturday’s result.

Hopefully a lot of the new signings finally get a run out on Tuesday night.
