Liverpool and Spurs get mixed messages from Rodrygo amid furious reaction and Xabi Alonso update

Rodrygo was recalled to the Real Madrid starting line-up on Sunday as speculation continues over a potential transfer to the Premier League.

Since Xabi Alonso’s arrival at the Bernabeu, Rodrygo’s position has become more uncertain, prompting interest from Arsenal before they signed Eberechi Eze, according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

TBR Football also understand that Tottenham are looking at signing Rodrygo in the final week of the transfer window and the Brazilian is open to a move, while Liverpool are understood to have held talks with Rodrygo’s camp in July.

Manchester City are another club regularly linked with the Real Madrid winger, so he will be one of the stories to watch before next week’s transfer deadline. And with just days left to make a deal, there are new mixed messages coming from Spain.

Xabi Alonso praises Rodrygo despite his furious reaction to being substituted for Real Madrid

New Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso left Rodrygo on the bench in their opening match of the new season, later saying the decision was his alone. Alonso then recalled Rodrygo to the starting XI against Real Oviedo on Sunday, praising him after the game.

“He played a good match; in the first half, he linked up well with Carreras, Mbappé, and Güler,” said Alonso. “He had one-on-one situations and a few shots. Oviedo was sitting quite deep, and it was hard to find spaces, but I did like what I saw.”

However, Rodrygo was seen throwing a towel to the ground in anger after his second half substitution, raising further speculation that he may be unhappy under Alonso.

But he did later post to social media that he was pleased with the evening’s work. “Nice trip in Oviedo,” he posted, followed by the Real Madrid motto: “¡Hala Madrid!”

New report says Rodrygo has told Real Madrid he does not want Premier League transfer

According to Spanish website Defensa Central, Rodrygo spoke with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez after their win at Real Oviedo.

The report suggests that Rodrygo told Perez that he has decided to stay at the Bernabeu and fight for his place, and hopes to do so for many years to come.

This is not the first time that Rodrygo has been linked with a Premier League move, although the list of clubs lining up to sign him suggests it may be the closest he has come to leaving the Spanish capital.

If Rodrygo has indeed decided to remain at Real Madrid, Liverpool will continue to be linked with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, while Tottenham could ramp up their move for Savinho of Manchester City.
