David Moyes is looking to use his past relationships at West Ham to his advantage at Everton.

Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton on Sunday afternoon saw the Toffees record their first win of the season after the disappointment of defeat away to Leeds.

Summer arrival Jack Grealish registered an assist for Everton, who are still looking for more reinforcements ahead of the 1 September deadline.

With that in mind, Moyes is keeping a close eye on one of West Ham’s superstars ahead of a potential transfer swoop.

Lucas Paqueta on radar of Everton ahead of potential transfer

According to a report from the Daily Mail on 25 August, Everton have joined the race to sign Lucas Paqueta this summer, with an exit from West Ham looking possible.

Moyes is said to be an “admirer” of the Brazilian maestro, who has also attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, with Man City also previously linked with a swoop.

Aston Villa and Spurs are also credited with an interest in Paqueta, who was signed by Moyes during his time at the London Stadium.

Paqueta’s career record in Europe

246 appearances

41 goals

30 assists

West Ham paid a club-record fee of £51million to sign him from Ligue 1 giants Lyon back in 2022, where he has since made 122 appearances with 33 direct goal contributions.

It is claimed that the Irons could let their midfielder leave in the next six days, but only if they receive suitable offers for his services.

What has David Moyes said about Lucas Paqueta?

Given the fact that Moyes was influential in the deal to bring him to West Ham initially, it is clear that he is a huge fan of what he can bring to the table.

Back in 2023, Moyes was quoted by the BBC as saying: “Lucas was terrific. He drives me mad sometimes, but everybody who watched him would have said this player has incredible talent.

“There is a word that goes around, a maverick. He is that for us.”

West Ham are on a downward spiral, and a move elsewhere will surely entice him this summer, though if an offer of Champions League football comes in, that could sway his decision.
