The report also notes that James, 40, has not requested a trade and does not plan to.
Earlier, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Warriors have called the Lakers "on multiple occasions over the past 18 months" to explore possible trade scenarios to pair James with Stephen Curry.
James is set to earn $52.6 million next season, the final year of his contract.
Butler will make $54.1 million, meaning he would likely need to be included in any trade for salary-matching purposes. However, the Lakers are not interested in taking on Butler's contract—or Kuminga, who is a restricted free agent.
James has been with the Lakers since 2018 and led the team to the 2020 NBA championship.
