It looks like the mystery over Stefon Diggs’ status for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is settled.
Despite some recent cryptic comments from the star receiver, right now the expectation is that Diggs will be on the field.
This comes after New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was asked about Diggs’ status and what the expectations are for Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“That he’s ready to go, and that he helps our offense, and that he helps Drake (Maye),” Vrabel said.
Diggs is still working his way back from a torn ACL that ended his season in 2024. So far this preseason, he’s appeared to be limited in camp and did not play in any preseason games.
Vrabel didn’t sound concerned about Diggs’ lack of playing time in preseason games, arguing that the receiver got “a lot of reps” during practice.
“I think where he’s at, he’s been able to string days together, whether I’ve held him out of individual and brought him out for team,” Vrabel said. “I’m just trying to get each guy that they need to be ready for the season.”
Overall, it’s a much clearer message than what we got the last time we checked in with Diggs.
It was 11 days ago that the star receiver kicked up a media storm with some oddly veiled comments to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
“We’ll see about Week 1,” Diggs said. “I don’t know how I feel about it. We’ll see. Coaches aren’t too excited. I’m not too excited. I’m just trying to take a day by day. So we’ll see. It looks like we just don’t know where it’s gonna go. Yeah, yeah.”
Vrabel has spoken positively about Diggs’ contributions so far in camp and about the receiver’s progress towards playing Week 1. Now, it appears the matter is settled.
