The Minnesota Vikings have added veteran quarterback Carson Wentz and acquired two new draft picks after trading Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wentz’s addition to the Vikings’ locker room was made official by the Vikings’ front office on Sunday.
Carson Wentz was best known for his time with the Eagles, spending five seasons in Philadelphia from 2016 until he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2021. During his tenure in Philadelphia, Wentz recorded 16,811 passing yards and 113 touchdowns.
After his season in Indianapolis, Wentz would go on to play on three other teams: the Washington Commanders in 2022, the Los Angeles Rams in 2023 and, most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024.
He has started 94 of the 98 games he has played in his nine-year career, completing 62.7% of his passes for 22,410 yards and 153 touchdown passes. He is expected to be the backup to J.J. McCarthy.
Wentz’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, will also be getting a quarterback after the Minnesota Vikings agreed to trade Sam Howell in exchange for two draft picks.
Howell and the Vikings’ 2026 6th-round draft pick were traded to Philadelphia in exchange for a 2026 5th-round draft pick and a seventh-round pick in 2027.
