The Magpies are desperate to bring in a striker and an offer of £50m has kicked off a bid for Wolves star

Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has arrived at St James' Park and sanctioned transfer moves as the Magpies look to finish the window on a high with just one week to conclude their business.
The Toon supremo's attendance at this evening's game against Liverpool has coincided with high level meetings at St James' Park, and from those meetings an offer of £50m has been tabled for Wolverhampton Wanderers player Jorgen Strand Larsen. That offer has been rejected by Wolves - but Chronicle Live understands that discussions with the club are ongoing.
It is believed that those talks have been positive between United and Wanderers despite not coming to an agreement. We also understand that the approach for the Norway international star is NOT a move to replace Alexander Isak.
Newcastle would see Larsen as a replacement for Callum Wilson who left the club earlier this summer to join West Ham United. It means that either Isak will be expected to stay or a late window sale to Liverpool will trigger more funds to bring in a marquee striker.
Howe made it clear to Chronicle Live on Friday that PIF would not allow the Magpies to go into the first half of the new season without a senior striker meaning Isak's dream move to Liverpool will not be sanctioned unless a replacement arrives before the window slams shut.

Howe had also ahead of the Liverpool game: "We are making decisions based on what we think is the best for Newcastle United.
"They are being strong on the valuations of players and on how a player leaves the football club, all of these things are important. They are important on this situation and also the future."
Isak released a strong post on Instagram last week making it clear that he wanted to leave Newcastle, when discussing if PIF would make their own statement, Howe said: "I don’t think they (PIF) are trying to make any overall big statement, but just reacting to this individual statement."
