Newcastle United have had an opening bid of £50million rejected by Wolves for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
With Callum Wilson at West Ham United and Alexander Isak still refusing to be a part of the first team squad, the Magpies are on the hunt for a new striker to lead the line.
Newcastle United were hoping to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford, but the Bees are still adamant that they will not sell for anything less than £60million.
With the transfer window closing in less than a week, Newcastle have now turned their attention to Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen. The 25-year-old enjoyed a bright season on loan at the Midlands side, scoring 14 Premier League goals.
His form earned him a permanent move to Wolves, but Newcastle are hoping to take him as soon as Wolves have signed him. It was reported on Monday that Newcastle have placed a £50m bid for Strand Larsen, but it has been quickly turned down.

Wolves insist Jorgen Strand Larsen is not for sale after £50m Newcastle United bid
The Norwegian international has featured in both of Wolves’ Premier League games this season, but has failed to register a goal involvement. That has not stopped the Magpies from placing a hefty bid for the striker.
Unfortunately, it looks as though Strand Larsen may be just out of Newcastle’s reach this summer, as according to the Express and Star, Wolves continue to insist that he is not for sale.
Last week, there was a suggestion that Newcastle were just £5m off an acceptable fee for Strand Larsen, but now word is that Wolves do not feel as though there is a fee Newcastle could reach which would be worth their while.

Wolves also believe that there is not enough time to find the right replacement for the 25-year-old who would be ready for Premier League football.
Vitor Pereira admitted Wolves cannot afford to sell Strand Larsen to Newcastle, and it looks like the Molineux side are sticking to that claim.
With Wolves clearly unwilling to sell Strand Larsen, Newcastle must look elsewhere for the striker Eddie Howe is so desperate for.
How Newcastle United felt about talks for Jorgen Strand Larsen
While Wolves are adamant that he is not for sale, every player has a price tag which a club simply cannot refuse. Fans must remember that this is only an opening bid for Strand Larsen, so Newcastle could end up going back in for the player with a much bigger offer.
Newcastle do not want to end the summer transfer window without a replacement for Wilson, so signing a new striker looks to be an urgent matter on Tyneside.
According to The Athletic, talks were held between intermediaries to try and reach an agreement for Strand Larsen. Those talks were deemed as positive from the Newcastle side, which gave them encouragement to make a bid.
The offer was a flat £50m offer with no add-ons, which is not enough for Wolves at this point.
Recent reports suggest that Wolves would accept £60m for Strand Larsen, but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will offer a fee which would make the striker the second most expensive player in the club’s history.
