David Moyes pounces for last-minute West Ham star steal

West Ham United are in trouble. ‘No points’ after two games of the new Premier League season only speaks to half of the issue. The Hammers are in disarray, Manager [Graham Potter](https://www.claretandhugh.info/potter-discovers-how-many-games-to-save-his-job-report-west-ham-news/) reportedly two games away from the sack and a squad decimated by players ending contracts or being moved on without being replaced. And the fan base are planning protests in indignant reaction.

Seven days remain for West Ham to replace some of the ten squad summer departures – and the leadership are admitting that prices are inflated as they cast around for midfield replacements: _Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, Carlos Soler (loanee), Michail Antonio, Lucas Fabianski, Danny Ings, Aaron Cresswell, Vlad Coufal, Evan Ferguson (loanee) and Mohammed Kudus. All departed: Surely most_ need replacing or indeed upgrading.

Now matters take a turn for the worse as West Ham are the subject of a most unwelcome bid – confirmed by journalist [Jacob Steinberg](https://x.com/JacobSteinberg/status/1959968445400781285) – to take one of their last two midfielders away with just about zero time to replace him.

**Tomas Soucek** – one of former Hammers Manager David Moyes’ favourite ‘_Czech Boys_‘- is now in a tug of war between West Ham and Moyes’ new side Everton. Steinberg confirms that _“Everton have had a bid turned down”_ for Soucek this afternoon. Whether the Toffees will come knocking with an increased figure – or whether indeed Tornado Tom will be unsettled by their attention and now agitate for a move – is of course yet to unfold.

_But the last thing Hammers need in the last week of the window is to have one of their last two remaining midfielders sold to Everton. Dark times at West Ham as the vultures circle, it would seem._
