The NFL mandates its teams must reach a 53-man roster limit by 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, and the New Orleans Saints have already begun that process.
The Saints waived undrafted rookie punter James Burnip Monday morning, according to a league source, indicating for the moment that they've decided to go with Kai Kroeger as their punter to start the 2025 season.
Burnip signed with the Saints following the draft, offering some competition for Matthew Hayball. New Orleans cut ties with Hayball earlier this month shortly after bringing Kroeger into the mix.
In three preseason games, Burnip punted five times for 188 yards with a 37.6 net average. Kroger had six punts for 276 yards with a 42.3 yard net average.

TE Seth Green (source)
Green joined the Saints after participating in the UFL. He caught two passes for 11 yards in the preseason.
RB Cam Akers (NFL Media)
Akers looked to revive his career in New Orleans, joining the team after a tryout this summer. The former third-round pick never found his footing in training camp, however, turning his eight carries into just 16 yards.
