Will Howard Opens Up About Desire To Return To The Field

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard drew positive reviews in the early days of training camp.

He was picking Aaron Rodgers’ brain, and the veteran gave him his stamp of approval.

Unfortunately, Howard injured his hand, and it might be a while before he gets back on the field.

That’s why, as much as he wants to be supportive, he’s not happy right now.

“I’m trying to be a good teammate and pump my brothers up, but it does s***. The competitor in me would tear my left arm off if I could go back in there,” Howard said.

Will Howard really wants to get back on the field for the Steelers: “I’m trying to be a good teammate and pump my brothers up, but it does suck. The competitor in me would tear my left arm off if I could go back in there.” #Steelers #NFL

Howard might start the season on injured reserve, meaning he wouldn’t be eligible to suit up for at least four games.

He was still a long shot to take the field as a rookie, though.

The Steelers brought back perennial backup Mason Rudolph to sit behind Rodgers, and Howard was projected to be the third-stringer.

They also had Skylar Thompson in the mix, and he fared well in limited preseason action.

Howard helped Ohio State win the national championship last season, but his NFL projection was that of a backup.

Yet, he can still be in the mix to be Pittsburgh’s quarterback of the future.

Rodgers has admitted that this will most likely be his final season, meaning the Steelers will be back in the hunt for a quarterback.

That might be the first thing on Howard’s mind, as he needs to get healthy to make a case for himself ahead of next season.
