Tottenham now want to sign 27yo 'maverick' after Nico Paz blow, player open to Spurs move

Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their efforts to sign a creative midfielder this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are plotting another stunning raid on West Ham United, with Lucas Paqueta now on their radar.

Tottenham have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season with two wins from as many games.

They kicked off the campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to newly promoted Burnley before sending shockwaves throughout the division with a 2-0 win away to Manchester City.

With five goals and two clean sheets, Tottenham have made a flying start to the Thomas Frank era.

But they’re not resting on their laurels. The North Londoners are still looking to significantly strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

Paqueta could fill the void left by Maddison

Tottenham have made it clear that they still want to sign a new winger and a number 10 before the transfer window closes next week.

After losing James Maddison to a long-term injury, Tottenham want to sign a creative midfielder to fill the void.

Dejan Kulusevski is an option, but the Swedish forward is also recovering from injury problems. Paqueta would be a decent addition to Frank’s squad, and he’s open to leaving West Ham this summer.

The 27-year-old ‘maverick’ has endured a rough past 12 months. He was accused of breaching betting rules, and the Football Association were pushing for a lifetime ban if he was found guilty.

However, he has now been exonerated and could leave West Ham before the window closes.

Aston Villa are also interested in Paqueta, but they don’t have the financial muscle to outmanoeuvre Tottenham if it came down to a bidding war.

Paqueta is now valued at just £24 million on Transfermarkt, making him a highly attractive option.

Tottenham’s interest in Paqueta comes after they saw a sizable bid for wonderkid Nico Paz turned down by Serie A side Como.

The North Londoners have also missed out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, who decided to join Arsenal.
