Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards Makes Wild Claim About NBA Legend Yao Ming

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar guard Anthony Edwards never hesitates to let his confidence shine, on and off the court, whether it's a rim-rattling dunk, a game-winning shot, or a surprising comment he makes.

Even though the NBA season is still a couple of months away, the Timberwolves star recently reminded fans of his continuing rise to superstar levels.

He also did so with a surprising remark about one of the game's all-time greats, NBA big man Yao Ming, who spent the entirety of his career with the Houston Rockets.

Yao was known for his imposing presence on the court as a 7-foot-6 center manning the middle and dunking easily whenever possible.

That's something Edwards also enjoys, as he's been known to appear in various eye-opening highlights, including dunks on his opponents.

He also believes that if Yao were still playing in today's NBA, the big man would be included among his on-court victims for a poster-worthy dunk.

Taking to X, the Timberwolves couldn't help but share Ant's recent comment along with a side-by-side shot of him and Yao.

"I wud dunk on Yao shout out to one of da greats," he declared.

"Only Ant would say this," the Timberwolves wrote in their message, along with several crying laughing emojis.

Fans immediately reacted to the hilarious statement about Edwards' dunking abilities, with some believing it to be true.

One fan suggested on X, "Ant gonna bang on Wemby this season," referring to 7-foot-3 French center Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs.

"Get them on the court," another fan on X commented.

"Antman dunk contest, dunks over Yao I'm calling it," a fan's X comment said.

In 2024, Edwards won Dunk of the Year with his posterization of big man John Collins, resulting in a dislocated finger for Ant-Man.

Yao played for eight seasons in the NBA after becoming the Rockets' No. 1 pick in 2022. The eight-time All-Star averaged 19 points, 9.2 rebounds, and nearly two blocks per game.

He's also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

Edwards, a three-time NBA All-Star, is entering his sixth season with the Timberwolves and is looking towards improving upon their postseason success.

After two failed attempts at reaching the NBA Finals, they'll bring back most of their roster, including Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid, along with a new big man of their own, rookie French center Joan Beringer.

Beringer stands 6-foot-11, giving Edwards someone to practice his dunking with, but he'd still have a bit more height to worry about with Yao.
