Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan thinks Calvin Ridley will be ready for Week 1.

The Tennessee Titans really only have one above average receiver on their roster. Depending on what you think of 32-year old Tyler Lockett, Calvin Ridley should have far more impact on the Titans’ season than any other receiver.

Ridley has missed some practice time during training camp in what the teams has called “general soreness.” But, according Nick Suss of the Tennessean, Ridley is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

“Ridley has missed practice time during training camp with what the Titans have termed as “general soreness,” but it doesn’t sound like his availability for the start of the regular season is in question,” writes Rotowire, via CBS Sports. “Ridley played 11 offensive snaps in the Titans’ preseason opener and caught all three of his targets for 50 yards. He’s expected to command the lion’s share of the targets in Tennessee’s passing game this season.”

Callahan was optimistic about Calvin Ridley’s health

Over the weekend, Titans head coach Brian Callahan said he was feeling good about several players getting healthy and ready to go for the start of the season.

“Training camp’s not over-over, but for the most part, we’re trying to start to get guys back now,” Callahan said. “I thought we had a hard camp. I thought it was physical. It’s time to start bringing some legs back and getting guys fresh and ready to roll. So we’ll manage that stuff.

“As far as those guys go (Ridley, Latham, Sweat), it’s getting them back into it and making sure we’re ready to roll. I think all those guys are tracking for Week 1 without a ton of concern at the moment. But we’ll see how the practice week goes, but it’s time to get those guys back and get moving and get ready to go play football for real. So, feel good about where they’re all at, but we’ve got to manage that and make sure we’re doing the right things by them so they’re back and ready to roll for Week 1.”

The 30-year old Ridley is known to practice hard, so the team could have been keeping him out of certain practices to keep him fresh and save him from himself.

Tyler Lockett has good things to say about Cam Ward

Speaking of other receivers on the Titans’ roster, the veteran Lockett has been putting in extra time with first-overall draft pick Cam Ward. Ward is expected to lead this team – with a wide receiver core that consists of one competent player – and turn around a franchise that won four games last year.

Lockett says he likes what he sees from the University of Miami product so far.

“Every single day he’s out there and he’s trying to get better,” Lockett told Jim Rome. “I know it kind of sounds cliché, but he’s really out there. He lives and breathes football. I’m not saying that’s not something everybody else does, but this is literally his hobby, his career, this is what he does at home. He thinks, sleeps, and breathes football.”

Lockett is going to have to step up and help Ridley in the passing game. Ward is going to need it.
