SANTA CLARA — With the preseason behind them, the 49ers cut their quarterback room down to just Brock Purdy and Mac Jones.
Carter Bradley and Tanner Mordecai were waived before Monday’s practice with injury designations. It’s believed botgh sustained ankle injuries in Saturday’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Purdy played only one series in the preseason, an 11-play drive that culminated in a field goal Aug. 23 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones sustained a knee injury in that game and did not play Saturday but is expected back at practice.
The 49ers made other moves ahead of Tuesday’s 1 p.m. deadline for an initial 53-man roster.
Waived were defensive linemen Jaylon Allen and Shakel Brown.
Running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn got released, the same day Brian Robinson Jr. was debuting in practice in a No. 30 jersey after his trade from Washington became official Sunday.
Offensive tackle Isaiah Prince’s knee injury late in Saturday’s preseason finale led to his Injured Reserve designation.
