"I'm told": Journalist issues update on 30yo West Ham star as club responds to bid from PL…

**West Ham United have turned down a bid from Everton for midfielder Tomas Soucek, according to [The Guardian](https://x.com/JacobSteinberg/status/1959968445400781285) journalist Jacob Steinberg.**

The 30-year-old has featured in West Ham’s opening two games of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

He came on as a substitute in the 3-0 drubbing against newly promoted Burnley and started the London derby against Chelsea as West Ham were thrashed 5-1 on home turf.

The Czech international didn’t have the best outing in any of those games, but he has been a key player for the Hammers since he joined the club from Slavia Prague five years ago.

Soucek, who has won 81 caps for his country, has made 247 appearances across all competitions for West Ham over the past half a decade.

He has proven to be a lethal weapon from the middle of the park, scoring 41 goals and chipping in with 13 assists for the Hammers.

West Ham manager Graham Potter is once again in the eye of the storm after the club’s horrendous start to the season.

The Hammers have now conceded eight goals in just two league games, leaving Potter under intense pressure to steady the ship before it gets any worse.

Reinforcing the midfield has been a priority throughout the summer, yet West Ham are no closer to sorting out the issue.

With the transfer window set to close next week, Potter can’t afford to lose Soucek without bringing in reinforcement.

Former West Ham boss David Moyes wants to reunite with Soucek at Everton, but West Ham would be silly to let him go so late in the window.

Soucek can still be an important player for West Ham this season. He notched nine goals and two assists in 35 Premier League games last season and was a bright spark in a forgettable campaign.

Soucek isn’t the only West Ham midfielder linked with a late exit. [Lucas Paqueta is believed to be of interest to Tottenham Hotspur](https://westhamblog.co.uk/posts/west-ham-midfielder-lucas-paqueta-on-tottenham-hotspur-radar-this-week/) and Aston Villa.
