The moment has arrived for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kyle McCord as he learns his fate on the roster.
Sources tell NFL insider Jordan Schultz that the Eagles have released McCord. Philly selected him in the sixth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft to compete with the third string quarterback job.

McCord struggled in preseason as he battled with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the QB3 job, but Thompson-Robinson also met his fate, being released. In three preseason games, McCord completed 24 of 56 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions.
What's next for McCord and the Eagles' QB room?
The move wasn't totally unexpected as the Eagles traded with the Minnesota Vikings for quarterback Sam Howell. This was in response to the Tanner McKee fractured thumb injury that is expected to keep him out for an undisclosed amount of time. That sparked the release of DTR on Sunday and McCord has met the same fate one day later.
It would be more of a surprise if McCord isn't re-signed to the practice squad. The Eagles still see him as a guy that can develop into a solid backup in the NFL, but needs more time.
Philly will obviously be rolling out Jalen Hurts as the starter and Howell will be the backup. McKee's situation will be interesting as to whether they will put him on IR or leave him as the third string for the time being. McCord can also be the emergency third string quarterback for the Eagles.

The quarterback room is looking quite different from how it was a season ago with a lot of changes. Fans are hoping that McKee can get healthy soon and McCord can use this time to develop and get better as a passer for when McKee ends up leaving the franchise to compete for a starting job elsewhere.
