Man United in 'talks today' with La Liga club, player wants Old Trafford exit

Manchester United are pushing to offload Antony before the transfer window slams shut.

Antony is deemed surplus to requirements after enduring two and a half disappointing seasons at Man United since arriving in 2022 from Ajax.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis, where his fortunes finally took a positive turn.

According to journalist Mike McGrath, United “are in talks today” with Real Betis over a deal for Antony to return to Spain this season.

There is “hope of an agreement” for the 25-year-old.

Antony received a few offers from Saudi Pro League clubs but has his heart set on a move to Spain.

Antony looks set to leave Old Trafford

Antony is part of the five-man ‘bomb squad’ that has no future under manager Ruben Amorim.

Last season, Antony managed only 135 minutes of Premier League action before Betis came calling.

He enjoyed a sensational revival of his form by netting nine goals and recording five assists in 26 games for the Spanish side.

The Brazilian felt at home in La Liga and could easily break the 15-goal barrier if given a full season at Betis.

Former manager Erik ten Hag once backed Antony with unwavering faith, but the winger failed to justify the trust.

Amorim believes Antony is not physically suited to compete in the English top flight and would perform better elsewhere.

United currently value him at around £40 million but it is difficult to see Betis meet the asking price given their financial limitations.

The most likely solution appears to be a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

INEOS have to ensure that they win this battle of negotiations.

A positive agreement will send a message to other clubs that they are no pushovers.
