Alexis Mac Allister misses Liverpool's trip to Newcastle United as Ryan Gravenberch returns after suspension.

Argentina international Mac Allister is absent from the squad with Arne Slot set to give an update on the midfielder's situation before the game and Gravenberch is back in the side after missing last week's 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at due to a red card he picked up on the final day of last season.

Curtis Jones starts alongside Gravenberch as the two deeper midfielders as Dominik Szoboszlai is tasked with starting at right-back, with Jeremie Frimpong out with a hamstring injury and Conor Bradley having only recently returned to training.

Hugo Ekitike leads the line for Arne Slot's champions with Florian Wirtz, and Cody Gakpo behind the France Under-21 international.

Milos Kerkez continues at left-back and Ibrahima Konate continues to partner captain Virgil van Dijk in the centre behind Alisson Becker.

Federico Chiesa, who scored his first goal for the Reds in that win over Bournemouth, is once more on the bench alongside the likes of Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo and teenage winger Rio Ngumoha.

Liverpool: Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Jones, Gravenberch; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Elliott, Chiesa, Ngumoha, Leoni, Bradley, Robertson.
