Newcastle learn Strand Larsen transfer stance after Wolves ‘reject £50m bid’

Newcastle United have reportedly failed with a £50m offer to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Eddie Howe's side are desperately trying to bring in at least one new centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes following the departure of Callum Wilson and ongoing uncertainty over the future of wantaway star Alexander Isak.

While Wilson departed at the end of June upon the expiration of his contract before joining West Ham United on a free transfer,Isak has been pushing to leave St James’ Park since learning of interest from Premier League champions Liverpool.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle have viewed Strand Larsen as a potential replacement for Wilson as opposed to Isak, and the Norway international is among a small number of names being considered by the Magpies.

However, their first offer that consisted of a straight £50m with no add-ons has been swiftly rejected by Wolves, who have made it clear that they do not wish to sell the 25-year-old.

Strand Larsen expected to stay at Wolves as Newcastle talks come to an end

Strand Larsen is considered an important first-team player and Wolves believe that they will not have enough time to find a replacement who will be ready to play in the Premier League before the September 1 deadline.

The 6ft 4in striker joined Wolves on an initial season-long loan from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2024, before his move to Molineux was made permanent for a reported £23m in July.

It has previously been reported that Strand Larsen has been **keen on the possibility**of securing a move to Newcastle, who will play in the Champions League this season, but the striker is said to not be agitating to leave Wolves where he is under contract until June 2029.

Newcastle are said to have felt that they held positive discussions behind the scenes to sign Strand Larsen, but at this stage, there are no club-to-club talks.

This news comes after Wolves boss Vitor Pereira refused to rule out the possibility of Strand Larsen leaving the club before the deadline, having already seen Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri - two key players from last season - depart this summer.

Newcastle hit stumbling block in pursuit of new striker

"[Strand Larsen] is a very important player for us," Pereira told reporters. "I haven't spoken with him about [transfer speculation]. He is committed to the team. I watch him in training and he is committed. He likes to win and he is a fighter."

Asked if Wolves could afford to lose another key player, Pereira added: "I don't know. The market is the market. If the window is open, the players can come and the players can leave. I believe this is possible."

Strand Larsen scored 14 Premier League goals in his debut campaign at Wolves, but he is yet to make the net ripple in two matches at the start of the new season, with the Old Gold losing 4-0 at home to Manchester City and 1-0 away against Bournemouth.

Newcastle may now need to turn their attention to other targets, with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa believed to be high on their wishlist, although they have already seen an offer in the region of £40m rejected by the Bees.

The Athletic claims that negotiations with Brentford over a deal to sign Wissa have been ‘complex’, while Porto’s Samu Aghehowa is another striker who has been discussed by the Magpies.
