Tyson Fury claims he has stopped supporting Manchester United and England.

The retired boxer was one of the Red Devils' most famous supporters and appeared to be ardent in his passion for them down the years.

Just last year, Fury was rubbing shoulders with Sir Alex Ferguson before United's memorable 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool. He has played the role of a pundit, too, occasionally offering the team unsolicited advice on how to improve.

Sometimes he has been a bellwether for how the fanbase are feeling. In 2021, after heir 2-0 derby defeat by Man City, he unleashed stinging criticism to try and rouse the troops.

'We're absolutely getting smashed out there, and I think partly it's because the players - no disrespect to any of you - it doesn't seem to me like you're digging deep to try and win these games,' he said in a video. This meant something to him.

But now it appears that their struggles have all been a step too far for the Gypsy King.

'I'm not a supporter of football really,' he told Racing TV at Cartmel on Monday.

'I used to support United but because they're in the s*** now I'm no supporter of any football teams anymore.

'I used to support England as well but when they lost to Iceland in the Euros in 2016 that was me and football completely done with. Now I'm into horse racing, get up!'

Fury was at Cartmel to see two of the thoroughbreds he part-owns race.

The revelation comes as he and wife Joanna have sold their Morecambe beachside home for £700,000.

Fans will subject themselves to a lifetime of ups and downs to support the club they love, but United's state has been that dire - for two years in a row, they've recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish - that Fury has thrown in the towel.

He has never fought at Old Trafford before, though has harboured dreams of doing so.

In 2015, he told Stretty News TV: 'The club has always been outstanding to me.

Fury has been an outspoken supporter of United and given his views on critical moments

'Everyone at Manchester United has been very kind towards me.

'We've got to keep our chins up. Fiunishing seventh in the Premier League is one thing, but we'll be back, because United has been the top club in the country on and off for a long, long time.

'You can't just jump off the bandwagon because you've had a bad season. United will always be United. The rest of these clubs will come and go.

'What stands ouut in my mind was the Treble in 1999. That was an amazing day and comeback and something I'll never forget. I don't think that will be equalled for me.

'Growing up, [Eric] Cantona was always my hero.'
