Liverpool have reportedly moved ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
The Brazilian managed only 63 minutes of action during Madrid's 3-0 win over Real Oviedo, and he has reportedly instructed his agent to find a new club for him before the window ends.
Arne Slot is looking to add one or two more players before the transfer deadline, with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak being heavily linked with a move.
The Magpies are unlikely to sell Isak unless they find a replacement, and so far, it has been a wild goose chase for the Tyneside club as they missed out on several top targets.
If Liverpool fail to sign the Swedish striker, they could turn their attention towards Rodrygo, whose future is growing uncertain by the week.
Potential transfer boost for Liverpool in Rodrygo chase?

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Rodrygo has been identified as a genuine target for the Reds, and super agent Kia Joorabchian has pushed his chances to be on the list of targets for Liverpool after Isak.
Los Blancos value the 24-year-old at around £86m, and the Premier League champions are happy to pay that amount.
Man City were also keen to sign the former Santos winger, but they have now cooled their interest due to internal blocking.
The news will come as a huge boost for the Reds to sign Rodrygo, who started just two of Alonso’s nine matches in charge and is behind Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Brahim Diaz, Franco Mastantuono, and Gonzalo Garcia in the pecking order for attacking positions.
Liverpool need depth in their attacking areas
Rodrygo from Real Madrid
Despite spending over £300m on eight new signings this summer, the Reds need more depth in their attacking areas as well as in defence.
Ideally, Isak would be their first choice, but Rodrygo would still be a fantastic signing, as he could provide flexibility in their attacking options.
The Brazilian would fit anywhere in the attacking setup, but he would more certainly be a direct replacement for Luis Diaz on the left-hand side.
Rodrygo can form a deadly trio with Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz, allowing Hugo Ekitike to play as a lone striker.
The Real forward can also operate on the right-hand side in place of Salah, thereby filling his void during the Africa Cup of Nations.
