"In talks" - Sky Sports journalist says Everton could now allow "tremendous" £16m star to make…

Everton are in talks with Sevilla over a potential loan deal for right-back Nathan Patterson, according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas.

Reports earlier this month indicated that the Toffees were searching for a new full-back and that they were considering a move for Sevilla's 21-year-old defender Juanlu Sanchez. However, Sky Sports are now reporting that the Spaniard is in talks to join Napoli before the transfer deadline.

But with Sevilla in need of a replacement, talks have been held with Everton over Scottish international Patterson, with David Moyes making him available for loan so that he can get regular first-team minutes.

As per Thomas, Sevilla are interested in Patterson, with a potential loan deal part of what is expected to be a "busy" week before the transfer deadline passes.

The Scottish defender has earned regular minutes for the Toffees, making 59 appearances since he was signed from Rangers in 2022 for £16m. But while former manager Sean Dyche hailed him as a "tremendous" talent, his successor, Moyes, seemingly does not rate him as highly.

Following his return to Goodison Park, the manager described how he was disappointed with Patterson's performances, urging him to 'step up.' And it's clear that the player has not made the improvements that were demanded from him, hence the decision to send him on loan.

Patterson made 10 Premier League appearances last season and has not been involved in Everton's opening matches of 2025/26 because of a muscle injury.

Should he depart, the Merseyside club could look to sign a replacement before the deadline passes to provide competition for Jake O'Brien and captain Seamus Coleman. Past reports have linked them with Norwich City's Kellen Fisher, who has impressed since arriving at Carrow Road from Bromley in 2023.

Everton have spent around £75.5m in the transfer window so far on the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry, Carlos Alcaraz and Adam Aznou. That sum is set to rise further, following confirmation from GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent that they have agreed a deal worth £42m for Southampton's Tyler Dibling.
