Rasmus Højlund set to significant pay rise at Napoli as £45 million Manchester United exit closes in

Rasmus Højlund looks to be closing in on a move to Napoli this summer, with the Manchester United forward set for a pay increase.

Manchester United’s summer business has focused on eradicating any of the goal-scoring concerns that developed due to last season’s underperformances.

Ruben Amorim’s side were in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons last campaign, but the main issue at hand was their problems regarding goal-scoring.

In his first summer as United manager, Amorim has brought in a brand new front three consisting of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.

With the Slovenian forward being brought in just before the new Premier League campaign, it seems like Rasmus Højlund is out of the plans at United, leaving him to seek new pastures.

Napoli’s wage offer to Højlund

Having endured a fairly difficult two years as a Red Devil, the story between the Dane and the Manchester club may be coming to an end, with Napoli emerging as a rumoured destination for Højlund.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Højlund has been in contact with the Italian giants, who would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy.

The key takeaway from the report is that the salary ‘wouldn’t be an issue’ for the 23-year-old striker, who would see his salary increase drastically.

At United, Højlund is reportedly earning around £85,000 a week pre-tax. Still, according to the Italian report, his wage at Napoli could increase to a net salary of around £155,000 a week before tax.

It has been reported that Højlund’s move would see Napoli loan him with a conditional obligation to buy by around £40 million plus a loan fee, which could see United earn up to around £45 million.

An end to United’s headache in sight?

Since Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag at the end of 2024, one of his main challenges has been addressing the attacking issues that have often been questioned by the media.

It seems as if Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and now Højlund have reached the end of their United chapter, but offloading the want-away stars is another problem in itself.

Only Rashford has found a new club so far, as he will spend the upcoming season on loan at Barcelona. Amorim will be over the moon if he can offload more of these outcasts in the final week of the window.

United will be desperate to have a productive end to their summer window, and a deal with Napoli for Højlund could be exactly what the doctor ordered for Amorim.
