Report: Nottingham Forest in talks to sign "fantastic" £45,000-a-week star, he wants Premier…

Nottingham Forest have opened talks to sign Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic before the transfer deadline, according to The Guardian journalist Will Unwin.

The City Ground side are looking to bring in a new shot-stopper to provide competition for first-choice Matz Sels, and the arrival of Livakovic would particularly appeal to head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese tactician is insistent Forest need to sign a new goalkeeper in the final days of the summer window, with last season’s understudies Carlos Miguel and Wayne Hennessey both departing.

Forest signed former Norwich City keeper Angus Gunn on a free transfer and have now set their sights on Livakovic, who would be their ninth arrival of the summer.

Livakovic lost his starting spot in Jose Mourinho’s first XI at the start of the season, with the Fenerbahce boss opting for Irfan Can Egribayat in goal for the opening games of the campaign.

According to Unwin, Forest are working in the background to supply Nuno with ‘everything he wants’ following the Portuguese coach’s open criticism of the club’s transfer business.

The City Ground outfit are also aiming to sign two new full-backs, with Aston Villa ace Matty Cash a top target, before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Forest have splashed out around £140m on new signings this summer, with Gunn, Igor Jesus, Dan Ndoye, Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee, Jair Cunha and Arnaud Kalimuendo joining on permanent deals.

The Tricky Trees have also welcomed former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus, with a conditional obligation to make the deal permanent next summer.

Livakovic, who joined Fenerbahce from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2023, has made 72 appearances for the Turkish club, keeping 26 clean sheets and conceding 78 goals.

Fenerbahce are believed to be open to the 30-year-old’s departure ‘for the right amount’, as Livakovic is no longer a first-choice option for Mourinho.

The 'fantastic' Croatia international, who earns £45,000 per week, is said to be eager to test himself in England and was scouted by Premier League clubs during the 2022 World Cup, when he helped Croatia finish third.
