Wolves have rejected a £50 million bid from Newcastle United for Jorgen Strand Larsen – and there is now word regarding what the Magpies’ next move will be.
Jorgen Strand Larsen is a player many Wolves fans thought there would be absolutely zero chance of going anywhere this summer.
He scored 14 goals in his first season, and then Wolves signed him permanently for around £23 million.
But despite that permanent signing, Strand Larsen’s future has recently been thrown up in the air, with Newcastle showing interest in the player.
And on Monday, Newcastle made a £50 million bid for Strand Larsen, which Wolves rejected.
All eyes are on what the Magpies will do now after that rejection, and one publication has shared their intention.

With Matheus Cunha having left, extra responsibility has fallen on Strand Larsen.
He is the main source of goals at Molineux, and Wolves don’t want to lose that, especially this close to the end of the transfer window.

Newcastle failed with their first offer for Strand Larsen.
But according to The i Paper, the Magpies are set to test Wolves’ resolve with another bid. It’s stated ‘there is a feeling in recruitment circles that Newcastle’s bid for Strand Larsen is significant and potentially over his current valuation’, so it may yet move the dial.’

But Wolves do not want to sell, so Newcastle’s next offer will have to be significantly higher if a transfer is to happen.
Interestingly, it is stated that the Alexander Isak situation is not a factor here, and that Newcastle are actually going for Strand Larsen as a replacement for Callum Wilson, who recently left as a free agent.
Some will question that though, given the peculiar timing of the approach.
Wolves just cannot afford to lose Strand Larsen now
If Newcastle had approached Wolves a month or two ago with the intention of signing Strand Larsen, this would be a very different situation.
And £50 million would actually not be far off his true market value.
But with just one week to go until the window closes, Wolves simply cannot afford to lose Strand Larsen or even be entertaining the idea of selling him.
There’s hardly any time left to get a good replacement.
It will be fascinating to see what the second offer from Newcastle will be, and there’ll be plenty of Wolves fans feeling nervous about what the response to that offer from Fosun will be.
We all know how the owners normally operate, and the temptation to turn a big profit will be very strong.
But surely, the potential damage this sale could do would not be worth it in the long run, with Wolves’ squad already woefully short of quality.
