After a long and grueling “hold-in,” the Washington Commanders have finally agreed to a long-term extension with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has spent his entire career in Washington.

McLaurin signed a three-year, $96 million deal after missing the entire preseason and has yet to practice with the team. The Commanders now have until Sept. 7 to ramp him up for their season opener against the New York Giants.

The news quickly drew a strong reaction from McLaurin’s quarterback Jayden Daniels’ mother and agent, Regina Jackson, who has been seen on countless occasions at public events alongside her son.

“Finally!! It’s go time now!! #httc #HTTR #raisehail,” Jackson wrote.

At 29 years old, Terry McLaurin’s age factored into the Commanders’ initial hesitancy to offer a long-term deal that would pay him into his mid-30s. Ultimately, though, coming off a career year and fresh off an NFC Championship appearance last season, the pros outweighed the cons of bringing him back to pair alongside Deebo Samuel at wide receiver.

McLaurin has been remarkably durable, playing in all 17 games in each of the last four seasons and never missing more than three games in any of his six years with Washington. Despite catching passes from several different quarterbacks over that span, his production has remained consistently strong.

In 2024, McLaurin recorded 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. Over the course of his career, he has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in every season except his rookie year, totaling 38 touchdowns to date.
