Crystal Palace are now interested in Christoph Baumgartner as an alternative to Bilal El Khannouss as the search for Eberechi Eze’s replacement rumbles on.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Christoph Baumgartner is the latest player to get linked with Crystal Palace as Eberechi Eze’s likely replacement. The Austrian international is now viewed as an alternative to top target Bilal El Khannouss, as a deal for the Leicester City star looks difficult now.
The exit of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal has created a void at Crystal Palace that they wish to address at the earliest. Many players are being linked with a move to replace the England international, with club chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner already at odds with regards to a few targets.
For instance, Parish wants Yeremy Pino from Villarreal, while Glasner does not prefer the Spanish winger, as the manager has doubts about where he fits into the squad. On the other hand, Glasner wants Christos Tzolis, as the club might have a sit-down to make a firm decision.
Bilal El Khannouss was their key target to replace Eze, and reports had stated a move was close. However, there have been some key developments in the background with reports stating that Tottenham are planning an approach to get the attacking midfielder as a cover for the injured James Maddison.
Incidentally, it was Tottenham who missed out on Eze as Arsenal swooped in late for the attacker. Now, they might look to hijack Crystal Palace’s move for El Khannouss, which could see the Eagles targetting other names. With Tzolis and Pino mentioned as targets, there’s a new name for them to consider, as RB Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner is a target for Glasner.
Crystal Palace are keen on Christoph Baumgartner
Baumgartner, an attacking midfielder, is someone Glasner would like at Crystal Palace, as he is a key player for RB Leipzig. His numbers are not as big as Eze’s, but certainly an area the manager can improve with his system and where he plays the Austrian.
The 26-year-old midfielder could view this as a big opportunity to play under his compatriot and take his chances in the Premier League. The unavailability of European football at Leipzig could be another reason for Christoph Baumgartner to consider leaving, as this might be a deal to watch out for towards the end of the transfer window.
