Eddie Howe has revealed there is no update on Alexander Isak as he addressed the rumours that Newcastle United have had a £50m bid rejected for Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Sweden international is currently frozen out of the first-team picture at St James’ Park amid a stand-off over his future.

As a result, he will miss tonight’s game against Liverpool. The 25-year-old also issued a statement last week claiming promises made to him by the club have been 'broken' and 'the relationship can’t continue'.

Liverpool have already seen an £110m bid rejected for the forward this summer, and speaking ahead of tonight’s game at St James’ Park, Howe revealed there was no new update on Isak’s situation at the club.

"No, absolutely nothing to update you with unfortunately,” he told Sky Sports. "We were training this morning and I was preparing for the game and I've had no updates on anything. The focus purely for me is on this game, as I think you'll understand.

"It's not where we want to be at this moment of time, entering the new season without a recognised centre forward in that position.

“What I will say is Anthony Gordon has played the position really well for us historically. I thought he played really well last week, albeit didn't score, but I think he led the line really well and I expect him to do it again today."

Just hours before the Reds face the Magpies, rumours emerged claiming that Newcastle have had a bid of £50m rejected for Wolves forward Larsen.

Asked about the bid, Howe replied: “I’m not going down well here, am I, because I’ve got nothing to tell you on that!

“I’ve been preparing the game and I’ve had no updates on anything … the focus for me is purely on this game, as I think you’ll understand.”
