Tottenham have failed with a bid for Nico Paz following a €70 million offer, as Real Madrid play a huge role in letting Como keep the player.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Como have turned down a massive €70 million offer from Tottenham for playmaker Nico Paz. The attacking midfielder is viewed as a future Real Madrid star, with the Spanish giants’ influence paying off as Spurs may have to look at alternatives.
Tottenham are into desperate territory when it comes to signing an attacking midfielder. The North Londoners had wanted a player of that profile as an addition rather than a replacement earlier in the summer, as seen with their failure to land Morgan Gibbs-White amid controversial circumstances.
James Maddison then suffered an ACL tear, which makes the need for an attacking midfielder imperative for Spurs, who have played Pape Matar Sarr in an advanced role in the two games this season. They were closing in on Eberechi Eze before Arsenal hijacked the move, while they have been since linked with Bilal El Khannouss as an alternative.
In the aftermath of losing the Eze race, Spurs were linked with Morgan Rogers and Nico Paz as key options to reinforce the positions. Tottenham held an interest in Paz and were indicating their willingness to pay a massive fee to test Como’s resolve.
While they were expected to make a bid, it appears, Spurs have indeed tabled a €70 million offer, that Como wasted no time in turning down. The 20-year-old playmaker seemingly sees his future with Real Madrid in the coming years, and is thoroughly happy to keep playing under Cesc Fabregas’ tutelage at Serie A club Como.
Real Madrid have total control over Nico Paz’s future
Tottenham were always expected to be frustrated by Real Madrid’s presence in any deal for Paz, and now they are finding out in real time, as per Fabrizio Romano. The Spanish giants have total control over the 20-year-old Serie A playmaker’s future, owing to several key clauses inserted in his contract during his transfer to Como.
For instance, they can sign him for a modest buy-back clause in this window as well as the summers of 2026 and 2027. Moreover, Florentino Perez views him as a key part of their future and is reportedly looking to exercise the buy-back clause in 2026. Hence, for Spurs, they may have to look elsewhere rather than wasting any more of their time chasing Nico Paz.
