According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, these are the players who have been waived and released thus far.
Bears waived:
DB Millard Bradford
DL Xavier Carlton
DB Alex Cook
LB Power Echols
DB Kaleb Hayes
QB Austin Reed
RB Ian Wheeler
TE Joel Wilson
Bears released:
DB Tre Flowers
RB Royce Freeman
OL Joshua Miles
Interestingly, the Bears have released longtime defensive back Tre Flowers. Flowers has played for multiple NFL teams and was a former star for the Seattle Seahawks' secondary.
During his four seasons with Seattle, Flowers brought in three interceptions, 16 passes defended, five forced fumbles, two sacks, and 212 total tackles.
The 2019 season saw Flowers secure three interceptions and post a 60.4 completion percentage and 72.5 passer rating against opposing quarterbacks.
Following his four seasons with the Seahawks, Flowers bounced around to several teams, including two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, one season with the Atlanta Falcons, one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and one with the Indianapolis Colts.
Flowers signed with the Bears in July and has since been released. He will now pursue another team heading into the 2025 NFL season.
Flowers could end up with a team quickly, as finding reliable defensive backs is hard to do in the NFL. Despite his dips in production and being part of practice squads, Flowers may end up on a team quickly.
The Bears might also choose to bring Flowers back for their own practice squad, though there is no guarantee of that happening. There is a lot of hope for the Bears in 2025, and the team's defense has playmakers that could lead to a playoff berth.
