For four years between 2012 and 2016, Robert Sacre was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. After being drafted with the 60th and final pick of the 2012 NBA Draft, the former Gonzaga center spent the first four seasons of his professional career with the Lakers, playing in 186 regular season games in that time.

Now in retirement, Sacre has numerous things going on. But forget that for a moment; so as to not bury the lede any longer, let us not hesitate in getting to the thing that brought you here. In partnership with North Idaho Urology – a facility in the Idaho city of Coeur d’Alene – here is Robert Sacre, former L.A. Lakers center, appearing in a TV advertisement proudly announcing his plan to get a vasectomy.

Sacre’s Post-NBA Life

Sacre ended his playing career in 2019, having tacked on a couple of years in Japan to go with his time with the Lakers. He signed a preseason contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in the summer of 2016 upon leaving the Lakers, yet was waived just before the season began, and never signed another NBA deal again.

Six years into his retirement, Sacre has various credits to his name, including two prior stints in basketball management as first an assistant general manager and later a senior advisor with the Canadian Elite Basketball League franchise, the Vancouver Bandits. Sacre has also established a business sideline in the field of horse breeding, and coaches local middle school teams in his local area.

Solid Lakers Center For Several Seasons

Across his four seasons with the Lakers, Sacre was able to post career averages of 4.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game. His finesse offensive game based around the mid-range jump shot never quite found a home in the NBA, as evidenced by his career.475 true shooting percentage, and he came along slightly too soon for the full advent of the three-point revolution that might have extended his career. Nonetheless, as a lithe and skilled seven-footer, Sacre offered a useful depth option across those four years, even if they were far from the four best years in Lakers franchise history. It was not his fault.

In Japan, Sacre had the opportunity to put up big numbers, and his final professional season (2018-19) saw him post averages of 19.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 blocks per game in 60 contests for the Hitachi Sunrockers. His time in the country was slightly blemished by one of the worst dunk contest performances in the history of the universe, yet the vasectomy video serves as a testament to Sacre’s ability to laugh at himself, no matter who is watching. A lesson for us all there, perhaps.

Of note, though, is a recent Instagram post by Sacre’s fiance, a Spokane massage therapist named Kaylynne Wilbur. The post, dated January 2025, shows a pregnant Wilbur announcing her engagement to Sacre, yet the North Idaho Urology advert was released to YouTube in January 2024. The same February 2025 article above that announced his latest middle school coaching stint, it should be noted, also reported that Sacre has four children, with a fifth on the way. While having such a large family might explain his appearance in the vasectomy advert, then, one can only assume he changed his mind after all.
