Report: Raiders' Jakobi Meyers Requests Trade in Shocking Roster Twist

In a shocking twist, Las Vegas Raiders star receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade from the team.

Per Ian Rapoport, "#RaidersWR Jakobi Meyers recently met with team brass and requested to be traded, per me and @TomPelissero. The team, citing his value, said they had no plans to do so. Meyers and the team attempted to negotiate a new contract, but could not come to terms."

Apparently, Meyers is seeking a new contract, and the Raiders have not come to terms with his demands. Now, the star receiver is seeking to be sent to a new team.

Meyers brought in 1,027 yards and four touchdowns in 2024, and that was during a time when the Raiders were still figuring out their quarterback situation. With Geno Smith fully integrated as the starter, losing the speedy receiver would be horrible for the organization.

Meyers is reportedly due $10.76 million in 2025, but there is no deal beyond that. Instead of attempting to hash out a new contract, the receiver has decided he would rather play for a new team entirely.

It will be interesting to see what the Raiders plan to do, as this development could not have hit at a worse time. The team will engage in roster decisions to cut down to 53 by 4 PM EST on August 25, and Meyers would take up one of those spots.

Despite his spot being guaranteed, trading the receiver could impact a player the Raiders may not have wanted to waive or release. Also, if Meyers is dead set on leaving the team, the Raiders would have to get moving on a trade as soon as possible.

New Raiders head coach Pete Carroll might also want to intervene in the situation to keep a talent like Meyers in the building. If the pass catcher plans to play hardball, he might also hold out of games to get a new deal done or force a trade.

Following a career-high season for Meyers, it would be strange if the Raiders do not attempt to remedy the situation with some sort of deal.
