The New York Giants have a stellar quarterback class for the 2025-26 season, and they're getting praise for it.
The New York Giants are heading into a big 2025-26 season, and those in the Big Apple are hoping it’s a turnaround year for the franchise. The good news for the Giants is that they have an entirely new quarterback roster this season, and it features veteran Russell Wilson, veteran Jameis Winston, rookie Jaxson Dart and returning signal-called Tommy DeVito. So, they should be solid on that front.
One of the Giants’ offseason moves is getting praised for being an unexpected and “brilliant” decision. It has to do with one of the team’s quarterback picks, which feels good after so much talk about this roster.
Looking at Rookie QBs in the NFL
As the 2025-26 season approaches, NFL analysts are looking at the current rookie quarterback class. In a Sunday, August 24 feature for FanSided, Wynston Wilcox says that Dart’s stock has gone up since the preseason has wrapped up.
“Everybody questioned the New York Giants for trading back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart, but after the preseason, it seems like a brilliant move,” he stated in the piece. “He’s probably the only other rookie quarterback that could have outplayed Ward in the preseason. Dart finished 32-for-47 with 352 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.”
Wilcox adds that New York is likely “thrilled” to get Dart. “While he may not start a single game this year, Giants fans have to be optimistic about their future,” he said. “Russell Wilson is a rental, who’s only job is to buy Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen at least one more year. Dart is what’s going to save this team from mediocrity.”
Wilcox adds that while “Ward and Dart were first-round selections,” for “a thin quarterback class, talent wise, these two have made it clear they’re NFL ready and the most ready of any other quarterback selected. When it’s time for Dart to take over, don’t be surprised when he elevates this Giants team.”
Giants’ Brian Daboll on Russell Wilson Starting
Dart has enjoyed a solid preseason with the Giants and let them to some rousing wins. That’s led some to wonder if Dart might be start earlier in the season than expected. But, Daboll has shot down the idea of Dart being the starting quarterback soon, instead emphasizing that, yes, Wilson is the starter.
“Russ is our starter and we’re going to keep developing Jaxson,” Daboll said after the team’s postseason win over the New York Jets. He added, “Jaxson’s just got to continue to work to get better, and we’ve got to help him get better.”
He continued, “What we’re trying to do is help Jaxson be the best quarterback he can be. Just like all the quarterbacks. Just like every player on the team.”
During the matchup against the New York Jets, Dart completed 14 of 16 passes for 137 yards and had one touchdown and no interceptions. Wilson also appeared and went 4-for-7 for 108 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
For now, Wilson is certainly the starter. But, the Giants should sleep easy knowing they have a solid backup and rising star in Dart.
