Newcastle United have been plunged into an emergency transfer search after Anthony Gordon picked up a three-game ban.
The Scouser lunged into the back of Virgil van Dijk before Simon Hooper consulted his VAR team before consulting his pitchside monitor and producing a red card.
On a day in which Newcastle launched a failed £50m bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen of Wolverhampton Wanderers while also staging crisis talks with Alexander Isak, the black and whites now find themselves desperate for a new centre-forward.

Gordon will miss clashes against Leeds at Elland Road next Saturday, Wolves at home and AFC Bournemouth away. Newcastle are expected to return to the table with a bid for Larsen while a PIF delegation attempted to persuade Isak to stay.
But if Isak digs his heels in and continues to push for the move to Anfield, Newcastle face a race against time to get in two forwards.
Another name who has again been put to the Magpies is Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea with a fee north of £70m quoted - but there is also interest from Aston Villa and Bayern Munich according to those close to his agent.
Newcastle may have to field William Osula as the lone striker at Leeds if they don't find immediate cover while youngster Sean Neave stands by to sum up how short Eddie Howe is at the moment.
Howe had also ahead of the Liverpool game: "We are making decisions based on what we think is the best for Newcastle United.
"They are being strong on the valuations of players and on how a player leaves the football club, all of these things are important. They are important on this situation and also the future."
Isak released a strong post on Instagram last week making it clear that he wanted to leave Newcastle, when discussing if PIF would make their own statement, Howe said: "I don’t think they (PIF) are trying to make any overall big statement, but just reacting to this individual statement."
