Sunderland host League One side Huddersfield Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
The away side saw off Championship outfit Leicester City in round one, whilst The Black Cats had a first round bye.
Huddersfield came from behind twice against The Foxes to take the match to penalties, before progressing in the shootout after Lee Nicholls saved Kasey McAteer's penalty.
In the league, Lee Grant's side have had a positive start, winning four of their opening five games, with a 3-2 loss away to **Blackpool**the only blot on their league record so far this season.
Regis Le Bris' side got off to an emphatic start after eight years away from the Premier League with a 3-0 win at home to West Ham.
The Black Cats, however, were brought back down to earth this past weekend following a 2-0 away defeat to Scott Parker's Burnley at Turf Moor.
Both sides will be hoping to be in the draw for the third round when the remaining Premier League teams enter the competition.
Sunderland
The Black Cats are expected to make wholesale changes from the side that suffered defeat to Burnley at the weekend.
Nordi Mukiele and Arthur Masuaku are in contention to make their debuts.
Aji Alese, Dennis Cirkin, Luke O'Nien, Romaine Mundle and Leo Hjelde all remain sidelined however, and Dan Ballard limped off after just nine minutes against Burnley
Chris Rigg, Dan Neil, Anthony Patterson and Wilson Isidor, who were all mainstays in Sunderland's play-off winning campaign last season, are all expected to play a part on Tuesday night.
Whilst summer signing Marc Guiu is expected to start his first game for the club.
Huddersfield Town
Terriers manager Lee Grant has hinted that changes will be aplenty on Tuesday night.
He said: "What we have seen from playing Leicester was that we can trust this whole group.
"There are a lot of guys in there that deserve their opportunity to experience playing against a Premier League side with top players.
"We are going to make changes, we know that."

Key Players
Sunderland - Marc Guiu
Yet to make his mark for Sunderland in the Premier League, Guiu will be determined to make an impression in the Carabao Cup.
The on-loan Chelsea striker came off the bench in the 79th minute in *The Black Cats'* defeat to Burnley at the weekend.
However, making the most of limited game time will be something Guiu is used to. The Spain under-19 striker made just three Premier League appearances for the Blues last season.
Guiu made the most of his appearances in the UEFA Conference League scoring six times in just four starts last season.

The 20-year-old winger has seen his playing time limited to start the Terriers' League One campaign, but the former Sunderland academy player has still impressed with his time on the pitch.
Ashia scored in Huddersfield's 2-0 away win to Reading on August 9. He took full advantage of his start in the first round of the Carabao Cup by scoring the equaliser in the Terriers' 2-2 draw with Leicester.
In just 131 minutes of action so far this season Ashia has been on the scoresheet twice, averaging a goal every 66 minutes.
