Gallagher's return and surprise Everton loan: Latest transfer news and rumours today

Crystal Palace have allegedly approached Atletico Madrid to discuss a prospective deal for former loanee Conor Gallagher.

The England international donned the Eagles kit during the 2021-22 season and was a revelation at Selhurst Park, managing eight goals and five assists across 39 appearances.

Gallagher subsequently made a name for himself at Chelsea, but he was deemed surplus to requirements under new head coach Enzo Maresca and was sold to Atletico in 2024, as Joao Felix headed in the opposite direction.

However, a return to British shores has been frequently mooted for Gallagher, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Palace have now been in touch to discuss bringing the 25-year-old back to the capital.

Romano adds that the FA Cup holders have a 'concrete interest' in re-signing Gallagher on loan for the 2025-26 season, but there is no agreement on the club or player's side just yet.

Gallagher has contributed four goals and six assists from 52 matches in an Atletico shirt under Diego Simeone, operating as both a central midfielder and left midfielder in the Spanish capital.

Palace 'enter race' for 19-year-old Ligue 1 defender

As well as potentially welcoming Gallagher back to the English capital, Palace are supposedly interested in a permanent switch for 2006-born Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot.

Oliver Glasner's side will most likely be waving goodbye to influential captain Marc Guehi either this summer or the next, as the Liverpool-linked centre-back is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the current season.

In preparation for Guehi's likely departure, a separate update from Romano claims that the Eagles are running the rule over Canvot, whom Aston Villa have already tried and failed to sign.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the 2024-25 season with 18 appearances in Ligue 1, and he has helped Toulouse keep two clean sheets from their opening two matches of 2025-26.

Toulouse have Canvot under contract until the summer of 2029, though, and the Ligue 1 outfit are said to be after €20m (£17.3m) to let him depart in the current window.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Canvot is comfortable as a centre-back or number six, and he has made eight appearances for the France Under-19 side.

Everton 'in talks' to loan out defender to Sevilla

From possible Premier League defensive incomings to possible Premier League defensive outgoings, Sevilla are reportedly in talks with Everton over a loan deal for Nathan Patterson.

The right-back has featured prominently for the Toffees over the past three seasons - making 59 appearances in all competitions - but he has failed to establish himself as a consistent starter.

Patterson is also yet to turn out for David Moyes's side in the 2025-26 campaign, missing their opening clashes against Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion due to a groin injury.

The 23-year-old is not believed to be too far away from a comeback, but his playing return could come in Spain rather than Merseyside, as Sky Sports News reports that discussions are ongoing with Sevilla over a loan move.

Patterson is supposedly 'expected' to leave the Toffees in search of regular first-team action, and he will replace Juanlu Sanchez - who is set to sign for Serie A champions Napoli - at Sevilla.

Celtic 'readying move' to sign Lorient forward

Lorient's Sambou Soumano celebrates on April 26, 2025

Patterson came through the youth ranks at Rangers, whose Old Firm rivals Celtic are apparently looking to strengthen their forward ranks with the signing of Sambou Soumano from Lorient.

The 24-year-old was an integral player in Les Merlus' successful push for Ligue 1 promotion last season, coming up with 14 goals and three assists in 32 Ligue 2 matches as Lorient topped the table.

Soumano netted his first goal of the top-flight season in the weekend's 4-0 thumping of Rennes, but he is also now in the final year of his contract with his current club.

Football Insiderreports that Celtic are now set to make a 'formal move' for the striker, who could be the subject of an official approach from the Scottish champions in the coming days.

Premier League trio Sunderland, Brentford and Burnley have also been credited with an interest in Soumano, but none of the Premier League sides has submitted a formal offer.
