Newcastle suffer Wissa setback as Brentford boss reveals transfer expectation

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has insisted that he expects Yoane Wissa to remain at the club despite interest from Newcastle United.

Wissa is currently pushing for a move to Newcastle, who have reportedly failed with two bids for the Brentford striker, with the latter said to be worth £40m.

As a result of the transfer saga, Wissa has been left out of the matchday squads for Brentford's opening two games against Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

With a week left to go in the transfer window, it is currently unclear whether Wissa will still be at the club when the market shuts on September 1.

However, Andrews insists that he expects Wissa to remain at the club, although he will be available for Tuesday's EFL Cup clash against Bournemouth.

"He won't be involved [against Bournemouth]," Andrews told reporters on Monday. "Again, it's just a decision based around what I feel is best for the group."

"The focus is on the group tomorrow. Yoane won't be involved.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's been no movement in any way and I fully expect Yoane to be here come next Tuesday.

[Reintegration] is the plan. If I didn't think it would be, my stance on it would probably be different."

Could Brentford still sell Wissa?

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle return with a fresh offer or if they cool their interest in the final week of the window.

From Brentford's perspective, they will be reluctant to lose another important player, having already seen Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo depart for Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.

However, they could be tempted to part ways if one of Wissa's potential suitors meets their asking price, especially as they will be wary of losing the striker on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

With that said, the Bees would need to sign a suitable replacement before they consider giving the green light to Wissa's departure.
