Romano gives big update on Mainoo

Manchester United have had a productive summer with four signings.

The Red Devils have primarily focused on bolstering the frontline for the manager.

They have added Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to the ranks, and there could be more activity before the transfer window closes.

A new goalkeeper could be signed, while the club could pursue a holding midfielder too.

Amidst this, there could be potential outgoings to recoup funds, but Fabrizio Romano has clarified that there is nothing to worry about Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo’s future has been speculated after being an unused substitute in the first two games of the season, but Romano says he would not add any panic.

He said on his YouTube channel: “For sure, it’s a difficult thing to accept for Mainoo, but he has not communicated anything to Man Utd about leaving the club.

“At the moment, there are still no negotiations (over an exit). I would not add any panic to the situation of Kobbie Mainoo.”

Mainoo unlikely to push for an exit for now

The England international had a wonderful breakthrough campaign under former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023/24, scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final.

However, his playing time has drastically reduced since manager Ruben Amorim took charge. The Portuguese feels Mainoo does not get himself involved enough in games.

Amorim played him as a number 10 during the final part of last season, but speaking after the Fulham draw, he said that Mainoo is competing with Bruno Fernandes for the number eight role.

Fernandes has been an undisputed starter as the captain and has rarely been substituted. Keeping this in mind, Mainoo will no doubt be concerned about his playing time prospects.

Despite this, we don’t believe he will push for an exit before Monday’s transfer deadline. The club graduate could reassess his situation in January based on his minutes.
