New sign honoring former NFL, University of Tennessee player unveiled in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The City of Clarksville has unveiled a sign honoring a former NFL and University of Tennessee player.

A ceremony was held to honor Harry Galbreath at the Crow Recreation Center in mid-August.

Galbreath, born on Jan. 1, 1965, was a graduate of Clarksville High School in 1983. He played football and wrestled for the Wildcats during his high school years.

“He would go on to play for the University of Tennessee and later the NFL. During his nine seasons, Harry played for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers and New York Jets,” the city said.

Later, Galbreath continued his career as a coach for Austin Peay State University and the University of Tennessee.

He died in 2010.

“At Clarksville High School, he is memorialized through a Memory Rock, which the players rub for good luck before each game. CHS also awards its top lineman in his honor. Harry Galbreath leaves behind him a legacy of hard work and community that will always be remembered,” the city said. “The new “Home of Harry Galbreath” sign has been placed on Highway 76, near Exit 11.”
