Man United midfielder considers shock exit

Manchester United travel to Lincolnshire to face League Two Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils enter the competition at the second round stage following their 15th-placed finish in the Premier League last term, and Ruben Amorim’s side are overwhelming favourites to book their place in round three.

United are yet to win a match so far this season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham on Sunday, a week after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Arsenal.

Now, it appears that one key member of Amorim’s squad could decide to push for a move away from Old Trafford.

According to talkSPORT, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could still decide to leave Man United before the end of the current transfer window.

The 20-year-old has been an unused substitute during both of United’ matches so far this term, and the report suggests that the player himself could be open to leave his boyhood club if a suitable offer is received late in the transfer window.

Mainoo is a product of United’s youth system and has now played 72 times for the club across all competitions, having enjoyed a breakthrough 2023/24 campaign.

He was handed his senior England debut in 2024 and played a key role for Gareth Southgate’s side as they finished as runners-up at the European Championships.

The young midfielder struggled with injuries last season, and hasn’t played for Amorim’s side so far this term.

Mainoo has so far failed to agree a new deal with United, with his current contract set to expire in 2027.

It is claimed that the youngster is demanding a weekly wage of £150,000, but an agreement has not yet been reached.

Mainoo – who has been capped ten times by England – is currently competing with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount for a space in Amorim’s team.
