The two Alexander Isak chants heard during Newcastle United vs Liverpool

Liverpool edged a dramatic game against Newcastle United in another Premier League classic on Monday night as the Alexander Isak saga continues to play out.

Indeed, Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-2 on Monday, with teenager Rio Ngumoha scoring a late winner on his Premier League debut.

Ryan Gravenberch had given Liverpool the lead against the run of play, before Anthony Gordon was sent off. Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool’s lead before Newcastle began fighting back.

Bruno Guimaraes got Eddie Howe’s side back into the game with a header before William Osula bagged what had looked like an equaliser. Still, the 16-year-old Ngumoha settled the game with a late strike.

It was a brilliant game and it’s worth remembering a ten-man Newcastle pushed the English champions all the way even without Isak in the side.

Isak wants to join Liverpool, and their fans were keen to remind Newcastle supporters of that.

Liverpool fans mock Newcastle over Alexander Isak

Reds supporters could be heard chanting about Isak from the away section up in the gods at St James’ Park.

One of those, as per Mark Douglas of iNews, was “Hand him over, hand him over Newcastle.”

There was another less savoury chant heard on Sky’s TV coverage, too.

Newcastle fans repeated the “greedy” chant they aimed at Isak after last week’s draw with Aston Villa. Still, surely not many onlookers would suggest Toon fans are not within their rights to vent their frustration.

Alexander Isak will be told to play for Newcastle United again

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are set to ask Isak to prepare for the Leeds game next week.

The situation is made all the more pressing following Gordon’s red card against Liverpool.

Howe is now without his only real back-up option for Isak, although perhaps Osula’s goal puts him in contention.

Newcastle are a better team with Isak involved. They proved on Monday, however, that they are not a terrible one without him.

There was so much drama against Liverpool that it’s remarkable that Isak remains the biggest story.
